Holy Spirit: Metaphors of His various functions

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26

"The reason why it has been so difficult for some to believe that the Holy Spirit is a person is because of the metaphors that the Bible

writers used describe the Spirit’s work. 

He is referred to as a dove, oil, rain, fire, and wind. However, the
Spirit is not these things. 

The dove symbolizes peace, oil keeps the lamp of God’s Word burning, rain refreshes spiritual life, and fire cleanses the life from sin. 

--Jesus is described as a Lamb, a Lion, a Shepherd, a Door, and a Road, but Jesus is not literally these things; they are metaphors of His various functions."
